Well, it’s the beginning of 2014, and many people are frantically trying to hold on to their New Year’s resolutions. Whether it’s to lose weight, exercise more, or take their photographs in for development, many people are thinking about how to make life just a little better or healthier.
At Art Partners, we suspect that just a few people might have ‘6-pack’ written on their wish list. That’s a tough one if it applies to the abdominal region. It means a commitment to low body fat, low carbs, lots of abdominal work, lots of sweat, and probably lots of gym time. Who wants that? The bottom line is that the abdominal 6-pack is elusive to most, apart from the most committed with a genetic pre-disposition to achieving it.
Don’t get discouraged though, because at Art Partners, we’re offering a 6-pack of a different kind.
Thanks to the generosity and commitment of Jill Porter from Frog Design, six of Roslyn Burns’ favourite paintings have been transformed into greeting cards. Before we tell you where they’re available for purchase, we want to give you a few facts and preview the images.
All the works were painted by Roslyn while she was attending Pam Teede’s Tuesday Club painting class at Stirling Street Arts Centre in Bunbury. Billie Griffiths, who was Roslyn’s art mentor from 2011-2013, supported her arts practice. Along with receiving guidance from her mentor and tutor, Roslyn painted with assistance from a support worker. A key member of Roslyn team for much of 2012 and all of 2013 was Tracey Musham.
How She Does It
Roslyn paints with her left foot. With support, she applies paint directly to the sole of her foot. From there, Roslyn creates engaging and award-winning paintings. All six works chosen for the card set are acrylics on canvas with one exception.
The Vase of Poppies was painted on paper in 2011 and was Roslyn’s first work as an Art Partner. It was beautifully photographed by Bunbury’s Jeff Henderson.
The Cockies is definitely a favourite. Roslyn painted it in 2011 and it was exhibited at the Bunbury Wildlife Park. The Cockies was photographed by Jeff Henderson.
The Waterfall was created in 2012 and was most recently exhibited at the 2013 As We Are Art Award and Exhibition in Perth.
Spring is Coming dates from 2012 and was exhibited at the 2013 As We Are Art Award and Exhibition in Perth. Roslyn won the Aurenda Art Award for artistic excellence for Spring is Coming.
The Spirit of Christmas was created in 2012, and was exhibited at the Stirling Street Arts Centre’s Christmas Craft Fair and Open Day. The painting was photographed by Jeff Henderson and was reproduced on Christmas gift tags and cards. It won the Activ Christmas Card Design Competition.
Kangaroo Paw was painted in 2013, and was Roslyn’s entry in the Stirling Street Arts Centre’s Christmas Craft Fair and Open Day.
So there you have it. A 6-pack of lovely cards to celebrate the New Year. And, best of all, getting your 6-pack doesn’t involve any sweat.
The cards are size A6, blank on the inside, come with envelopes and are priced at $10 per ribbon-wrapped set. All profits from sales will benefit Roslyn.
