Edith Cowan University (ECU), Bunbury Campus, will be the location of a live auction of 9 x 5 inch artworks to benefit Art Partners. This exciting community project has been gaining momentum over the past number of months.
A total of 62 pieces are on exhibition at the Bunbury Regional Art Galleries (BRAG) until August 14. The 9 x 5 inch artworks have been created by artists from across the region including students from ECU.
The 9 x 5 legacy began in 1889 when several artists of the Heidelberg School held a 9 x 5 Impressionist Exhibition in the Melbourne Town Hall. Most of the 183 works included in the exhibition were painted on 9 x 5 inch cigar-box lids sourced from local tobacconists.
The live auction will begin at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 28 in Building/Room 6.101 on the ECU campus. Images of the artworks will be projected on a screen prior to (and during) the auction. Organisers will be requesting a gold coin donation in exchange for an auction paddle.
Part of a Larger Event
The live auction is taking place on University Open Day which will be a great chance to check out the campus and visit the art studio (building 9).
Art Partners to Benefit
Proceeds from the live auction will benefit Bunbury’s Art Partners, an inclusive program that encourages people of all abilities to participate in community art classes and activities. Both participants and mentors have contributed artworks for exhibition and live auction.
