Date: Friday, September 19, 2014
Place: Edith Cowan University, Bunbury Campus, Building/Room 6.102
Edith Cowan University (ECU), Bunbury Campus, will be the location of a fundraising auction of 9 x 5 inch panels to benefit Art Partners. This exciting community project has been gaining momentum over the past number of months.
Panels Offer Impressive Variety
A total of 60 panels – including works created with acrylics, papier maché, oils, and collage – were on exhibition at the Bunbury Regional Art Galleries (BRAG). Those panels have now been relocated and are on display in the foyer of Building 3 on the ECU campus along with other panels completed since the BRAG exhibition. The panels will be on display at ECU until September 17.
The 9 x 5 inch panels have been created by artists from across the region including students and faculty from ECU. The 9 x 5 legacy began in 1889 when several artist of the Heidelberg School held a 9 x 5 Impressionist Exhibition in the Melbourne Town Hall. Most of the 183 works included in the exhibition were painted on 9 x 5 inch cigar box panels scrounged from local tobacconists.
The auction of the panels will be held at noon on Friday, September 19 in Building/Room 6.102 on the ECU campus. Images of the panels will be projected on a screen prior to (and during) the auction. There will be no admission fee, however organisers will be requesting a gold coin donation in exchange for an auction paddle. Savouries, sweets, coffee and tea will be provided. Organisers anticipate that there will be more than 80 panels up for auction.
Art Partners to Benefit
Proceeds from the auction will benefit Bunbury’s Art Partners program which matches protégés (people with disability) with mentors, and together they participate in mainstream art classes and activities. Several of the protégés and their mentors have contributed panels for exhibition and auction.
