Little Dresses for Africa Workshop 2016

On Tuesday, October 11, we’ll be marking the United Nations International Day of the Girl Child with a Little Dresses for Africa sewing workshop.

The International Day of the Girl Child recognises girls’ rights and the unique challenges girls face around the world.

Little Dresses for Africa is an American-based charity that Art Partners linked up with in 2013. However, the high cost of international postage derailed ongoing participation in this terrific project.

However, we’ve fortunate that there’s now an Australian collection point for the Little Dresses.

That combined with a donation of new pillowcases by our thoughtful friends at Stirling Street Arts Centre – donated to them by Toni O’Dea of Lorraine Lea in 2015 – means we can keep sewing!

In this workshop, participants will learn how to create a dress for an African girl child by using a pillowcase, bias and elastic.

This workshop is made possible with support from Stirling Street Arts Centre and Lorraine Lea.

Date: Tuesday, October 11

Place: Stirling Street Arts Centre, Corner of Charles and Stirling Streets, Bunbury

Time:  1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Places are Limited.  To express interest in participating:  Art Partners

Note:  This is an inclusive workshop and is therefore open to people of all abilities.  Required supports can be discussed on an individual basis with the Art Partners Program Officer.
