Date: Sunday, August 23
Time: from 2:30 p.m.
Place: Edith Cowan University, Bunbury Campus, Building/Room 6.101
Edith Cowan University (ECU), Bunbury Campus, will be the location of an auction of 9 x 5 inch panels to benefit Art Partners. This exciting community project has been gaining momentum over the past number of months.
A total of 65 panels are on exhibition at the Bunbury Regional Art Galleries (BRAG) until August 19. The 9 x 5 inch artworks have been created by artists from across the region including students from ECU.
The 9 x 5 legacy began in 1889 when several artist of the Heidelberg School held a 9 x 5 Impressionist Exhibition in the Melbourne Town Hall. Most of the 183 works included in the exhibition were painted on 9 x 5 inch cigar box lids sourced from local tobacconists.
The auction of the panels will begin at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 23 in Building/Room 6.101 on the ECU campus. Images of the artworks will be projected on a screen prior to (and during) the auction. There will be no admission fee, however organisers will be requesting a gold coin donation in exchange for an auction paddle.
Part of a Larger Event
This year, the auction is taking place on University Open Day (beginning at noon) which will be a great chance to check out the campus and visit the art studio (building 9). The public will be invited to try their hand at a painting activity and view work of the students.
Art Partners to Benefit
Proceeds from the auction will benefit Bunbury’s Art Partners program which matches protégés (people with disability) with mentors, and together they participate in mainstream art classes and activities. Several of the protégés and their mentors have contributed panels for exhibition and auction.
For information on the auction, please contact Sarah Mills or Donna Mazza at 9780 7742 or Mike Bandurski on 9780 7736.
