The art studio at Edith Cowan University (ECU), Bunbury Campus, was humming on Monday, June 8. A group of 21 participants gathered to try their hands at creating 9 x 5 inch panels. The workshop was led by the artistic duo of Helen Seiver and Marina Troitsky, and was funded by ECU and the Art Partners Community Inclusion and Participation Grant from the Disability Services Commission. There were many hands and one foot going for broke at a recent public workshop in the art studio of Edith Cowan University (ECU) Bunbury Campus. The workshop was held to give participants a jump start at creating 9 x 5 inch panels for upcoming exhibition and auction to benefit Art Partners.
The first part of the workshop was taken up with printmaking demonstrations. Helen focused on found objects that could be used to transfer an image onto paper. The idea was that those interested in experimenting with printmaking would work with paper, and then the chosen paper creations could be glued onto the 9 x 5 inch panels. The found objects included leaves, feathers, peppermint tree twigs and curtain lace. Continue reading
This month, we’ve spent a lot of time thinking about drawing. And, what a fantastic medium it is! Pause and think about it for a moment. Drawing is how people communicated before they had written language. But, in our contemporary world, how many of us are active drawers?
All this thinking about drawing led us to The Campaign for Drawing, a UK-based organisation that has one aim: to get everyone drawing. According to patron Andrew Marr, “Learning to draw is a very important part of becoming a fully rounded human being…Drawing is about being alive, being more human, having a richer sense of yourself, ultimately.” Continue reading
Friday, September 20 – the date of the fundraising auction of 9 by 5 inch artworks at Edith Cowan University (ECU) – was fast approaching. But, someone’s work was conspicuous in its absence.
